Alright gore-hounds, if you're a fan of real life gore (nasty stuff indeed) and still haven't had enough, Astaroth Entertainment has more disturbing footage for you to chow down on with Faces of Gore 3 and Best of Faces of Gore. In case you missed our evaluation of the first two Faces of Gore DVDs you can read all about 'em here first. Ready? OK, but be warned, this stuff is really fucking disturbing, don't say that I didn't warn you.

Currently only available on VHS Faces of Gore 3 sees the return of Dr. Vincent Van Gore, our host with the most as he introduces each segment of despicable violence and guides us through the world of "gornology." Faces of Gore 3 follows the same layout as the first two in the series with 3 segments including Crash, Suicide and Murder. With each segment providing even more gruesome carnage than the last, only those with the strongest stomachs will likely survive.

Highlights (if you even want to dare call them that) include brains and intestines being scooped off the street, heads split open, a mangled corpse of a guy hit by a train, drowning and hanging victims and a terrified hostage victim with a knife to her throat. Towards the end we're dealt with a most disturbing finale as we hit the infant section of the feature. Drowned infants are pulled from a river and deformed/burned babies are paraded around in front of curious cameras and on lookers. Did I mention the onscreen abortion? The whole affair is once again narrated with the same tasteless jokes (tongue in cheek folks, just keep saying to yourself tongue in cheek) and squishing sound effects. Some gruesome moments even have the audacity of a laugh track as accompaniment, I'm really going to hell now.

The Best of Faces of Gore, also only available on VHS contains about an hour of recycled footage and 1/2 hour of new stuff. Once again hosted by Van Gore, Best Of also features an intro by series creator Todd Tjersland. Before we hit the new footage, be on the lookout for some computer-generated skeletons dancing in the graveyard with Van Gore, I shit you not. The new footage is labeled as a confiscated tape that chronicles found footage of some teens run amok in a morgue mutilating corpses. Nice try, it's actually legit autopsy footage with a MST3K style commentary by the alleged "punks." I'm fairly certain it's meant to be a joke, anyone who believes that this is anything but actual autopsy footage should be glove slapped poste haste.

Faces of Gore 3 will certainly have its appeal to fans of the series, or fans of real gore videos in general, while the Best Of serves as a taste tester of sorts. If you want to get your feet wet, Best Of is certainly the way to go, while the 30-minutes of autopsy footage will likely appeal to those who have already invested in the series.

Of course quality ranges from scene to scene considering the multiple sources the carnage has been pulled from. Overall the quality remains quite vivid throughout with very little by way of video glitches (if any). The flicks are once again slickly edited and feature that nifty X-Files-ish score. If you don't find the images disturbing, then the commentary that accompanies them will probably leave you running for the hills with Satan close on your tail.

Obviously this series isn't for just anyone, fans of real gore are guaranteed to get their money's worth; and then some. These vids just keep getting sicker and sicker. I like to think that I have a strong stomach, but I even have a hard time sitting through them. Definitely the top of the line when it comes to real gore, no one has managed to equal the impact of Faces of Gore, it's just plain fucking gross. If ya like sick, disturbing, unflinching, twisted real life gore footage then you're guaranteed to love the Faces of Gore series. Bone appetite!
