Lawrence

The latest offering from micro budget 4th Floor Pictures brings to us 4 tales of semi-terror quality wrapped in one neat little package. Evil Tales 3: The Final Chapter has arrived and we're here to take a look and see what the dilly yo. Let's take a look.

Our stories are hosted by micro budget scream queen Pamela Sutch who flips through a book I'm assuming is ages old while wearing a most revealing piece of sexy red lingerie. Pamela returns before and after each segment to help guide us along the way.

The first story is entitled The Madness and involves a young man who is suffering some terrible nightmares. With visions of his ex-wife rolling around naked and soaping up in a tub he doesn't know where to turn (these are nightmares?). Oh, there's also a bloody axe in the picture as well, but still... Soaping up in the tub, the tub! In any event, our young hero makes repeated visits to a psychiatrist to ease his suffering? Ease his suffering indeed; is his psychiatrist friend or foe?

Story number two is entitled The Dead Forest. This little slice of madness entails another young man who attempts to bury his slaughtered child deep within a forest (he just couldn't take all that crying!). It's all too much for our young friend as he's tormented by the shrill cries of his departed child and a disturbing vision of himself (yes, that's right, himself) to contend with as well.

Next up is a delightful tale called The Nudy Channel in which a young man is mesmerized by a new found cable channel that features... yup, you guessed it, NUDITY! A delightful young lass on the screen provides our young fella with some interesting (and titillating) late night TV fare which eventually turns... EVIL! All the while our young hero's inbred roommate provides some much needed comic relief throughout.

Our last story is entitled In The Basement and concerns a young doctor who's tormented by some sort of creature/demon that resides in his basement. He goes nuts (literally) and gleefully pretends to slice up (some pre sliced) foam body parts. A young lady is also present who prances around in bra and panties. The young lady (who I actually WANTED to see naked) unortunately decides to keep the bra and panties on this go 'round (beggars can't be choosers!).

Running a scant 46 minutes (this includes the Pamela Sutch interludes) there's really not enough time to grasp onto (or be annoyed) by any of the onscreen shenanigans. Everything moves awfully quickly, which I guess is a good thing? I have to admit that I enjoyed The Nudy Channel segment the most, but not for the obvious reasons that one would expect. Sure, there was plenty of nudity, but the piece also incorporated some unexpected bits of comedy and effective musical interludes that made it all the more worthwhile.

The thing that struck me the most about the flick was its odd assortment of exploitation elements. I went in expecting a straight up horror flick and got something completely different. There's not a whole lotta gore or guts to be found here, while there is an unexpected large selection of full frontal female nudity (go figure). Not to mention the fact that The Nudy Channel plays off like the darkest of black comedy (odd that this would be the segment I'd take to the most in this instance).

Evil Tales 3 is about as micro-budget as they come, using any and all resources made available. Actors are quite often too young or old for their parts and sets are obviously mismatched for the scene. In particular, the psychiatrist's office in the first story was obviously someone's basement. I'll give credit where credit is due though as Ryan Cavalline is to be commended for having the balls and desire to pick up a camera and do what he wants to do most... just make flicks. It may not be for everyone, that's for sure, but those with a high tolerance for the most independent of independent flicks will perhaps find a new home with 4th Floor Pictures and their library of titles.
