A Star Wars fanatic, I am not. However, I have been known to enjoy a "good" Star Wars movie from time to time. I have seen each of the originals several times from their initial theatrical release, to their subsequent theatrical re-releases as well as on home video. I really don't think there is much I can say about Attack of the Clones that hasn't already been said. I will however, present the top 10 reasons why I feel that Attack of the Clones is just not a good movie. This is not meant to be funny, nor is it a joke, I'm going to keep this brief.
10. Jar Jar Binks makes an appearance and it's just enough to irritate.
9. There is a lot of wasted time, as the film stands it is at least 45 minutes too long (the term self indulgent comes to mind)
8. The special effects are not consistent. They range from the extremely convincing, to the semi-convincing, to just not convincing at all.
7. 97 % of the performances are so bad and wooden it's actually quite sad.
6. The best performance in the film (besides the always magnificent Christopher Lee) comes from Yoda and he is 100% computer animated (what does that tell you)
5. The word "cliché" comes to mind. If you've seen the movie and don't understand what I mean, see it again.
4. Shot digital and only projected digital in about 2% of theaters? What a rip-off, you can tell the difference.
3. Once again, as with Phantom Menace, it's evident that many scenes were only in the movie to market toys and video games, shame on you!
2. There is no feeling or sense of dread. We know from the start exactly what is going to happen and there are little to no surprises. In other words, who gives a shit?
1. George Lucas should not be allowed to direct another film. Bottom line is he's just not a talented director and simply cannot hold it together. I blame the poor performances, tie-ins, crappy story and unimpressive visuals squarely on his shoulders.
Anyone who walks away from this movie in awe, is doing so because they feel they have to. Sure it's better than the Phantom Menace but so is Adventures in Babysitting. I believe Star Wars fanatics have been brainwashed and are forcing themselves to LOVE this film. I'll save you the trouble, go see Spiderman again, it's a MUCH better summer action movie.
Thumbs down. But thumbs up to Natalie Portman Reeoowwrr!
