Zombie 3 better known in the US as either Burial Ground or Night of Terror, takes a nod from the original Romero zombie films. It's a simple formula really, the dead come back to life and start to attack the living for absolutely no reason whatsoever. That's pretty much it. So sit back, and grab a vomit bag, cause here comes Zombie 3 from Japan Shock.
If you're looking for a solid story and acting ability turn right around mister! You're in the wrong place. However, if you're looking for non stop, gut munching, intestine pulling, skull smashing zombie action, you came to the right place. Zombie 3 is one of those euro horrors that makes absolutely no apologies for its stupidity. It's relentless in its graphic display of gore, and distorted sexual absurdities. Basically, a select group of individuals, vacationing somewhere (your guess is as good as mine), are thrust into a nightmarish world when the dead start to rise from their graves. It's a battle for survival as our friends try to prevent their intestines from being pulled out of their bodies, and let me tell you, it ain't easy for them!
As if all this weren't enough, Zombie 3 features one of the creepiest and ugliest child actors to run the euro film circuit, ever. Allow me to explain if you're not familiar. Many euro horror films feature disturbing child actors. To make it even worse, their dubbed voices for English releases almost always add to the absurdity of the whole thing. The voices seem to be done by older individuals, therefore you have a creepy looking 12 year old, with the voice of a creepy sounding 30 year old. That's too much creepy! Who the hell knows, this could even be a 30 year old playing a 12 year old. Hold onto your hats folks! It gets even more disturbing! In this particular film, the child and his mother have a very creepy relationship, that not only verges on sexual, it reaches. Their relationship culminates with a "breast-biting" scene that is sure to make even the most seasoned gore hound cringe.
I have to say that this DVD from Japan Shock is a revelation. The print used is in excellent shape, and colors are strong and stable. There is minimal, and I do mean minimal print damage. A speckle here and there, some film dirt, etc. To be honest, there is absolutely no reason for this film to look this good, but I sure am glad it does! Sound is Dolby Digital Mono, and is equally impressive. Dialogue is clear and distortion free. The incredible soundtrack shines through and sounds awesome. I still can't believe I just got done watching such a great looking and sounding version of Burial Ground, unbelievable! This film didn't even look this good when I had the pleasure of seeing it in a packed movie theatre a few years ago.
There are a few extras to speak of on the DVD. The theatrical trailer, which basically highlights all of the gore scenes in the film. Your standard liner notes and filmography, as well as a still slideshow, which is pretty cool.
Any self respecting fan of euro-horror, or zombie films in general, needs to pick up this DVD right now. There is no excuse not too. Just like the liner notes say, throw away those fuzzy bootleg tapes! They're about to be replaced and you will not be disappointed! Bravo Japan Shock ya done good on this one, keep 'em coming!
NOTE: Keep in mind this is a PAL DVD, therefore, if you are in the US, you will need a PAL/NTSC converter. The packaging and disc also state Region 2, but this is in fact a Region 0 PAL DVD.
