"Pogosticking" in the nude, cartoon men with giant boners and a fully lit stick of dynamite stuck in a man's ass as he feverishly porks away at a young lady beneath him. These are just a few of the sights (and sometimes sounds) that await you within Other Cinema's recent DVD release, The Subject is Sex. This is a fascinating and fun compilation of movie trailers, PSA's and a wide range of clips of just general wicked weirdness and debauchery. Certainly not for the prudish or easily offended, The Subject is Sex holds nothing back in its 100+ minute, diverse array of vignettes that range in dates from the 20's to the 80's (also featuring scenes of both a hardcore and softcore nature).
Featuring just over 20 of these individual vignettes, The Subject is Sex does a swell job in offering a virtual smorgasbord of smut and depravity. I decided to pull a few of the most outrageous, unnecessary clips from the compilation to spotlight, giving you a quick glimpse of just what's in store - without giving too much away in the process.
We'll start things off with a B&W 'educational' film from the 50's entitled Nudism - A Way of Life. Easily proclaiming nearly every imaginable virtue of nudity as a way of life, this short film certainly had me convinced! With footage that includes women in the nude, typing away while at the office with a huge smile on their face, and explanations as to why "partial revealment" can offer even more titillation than full-on nudity. The moment of true clarity arrived when the narrator proclaimed, "The sight of a man shedding his socks does nothing for anybody" - indeed!
Next up is a commercial from the 60's for a men's cologne called Jade East. A group of attractive (and scantily clad) Asian women dance around an oversized bottle of Jade East proclaiming, "If she doesn't get it for you, get it yourself!" - yeah, you see where this is going.
More points of interest include a 4-minute trailer of sorts for an 'adult' film called Dynamite. The trailer opens with two tap dancers in front of an American Flag and a young couple in between them, doing their thang. The trailer features quite a few scenes of hardcore action and the aforementioned stick of dynamite in the ass - easily worth the price of admission on its own. Let's see...there's another trailer for a film called Holywood Blue which promises the sight of big name celebrities doing taboo things to 'get the part' and a homoerotic PSA for a President's Physical Fitness campaign from the 60's. We've got an instructional video on giving an enema from the 40's and a few more adult trailers including one for Andy Warhols' Women in Revolt. Also worth mentioning is a trailer for what could easily be considered the most non-erotic adult film ever made from the 70's called Memories Within Miss Aggie. A blowjob has never seemed so unappealing! This is just for starters folks, there's plenty more!
As you might suspect, it's really not even worth discussing print quality. Since these clips are mostly old and rare, you can imagine how the audio / video quality would fare. Let's just say that it's all across the board here, but there's really no worries to be had. This is a heck of a compilation and when it comes to A/V quality; there are really no surprises.
Extras include some fun liner notes, a few trailers for some other Other Cinema product, and yup - you guessed it...more smut! In addition to the 'Cheap Smut Give-A-Way' which offers the viewer random sex clips at the push of a button, there's also a vignette entitled 'Beefcakes and Cheesecakes. Basically just 7 or so minutes of sexual weirdness; clips include topless go-go dancers and men jumping rope in the nude. Oh, and there's a clip of a young girl rubbing an issue of TIME magazine (with Nixon on the cover) all over her privates. Yum!
Highly recommended to say the least, Other Cinema's presentation of The Subject is Sex is a fun little package. Offering a hodge podge of clips, related for all the wrong reasons, you may just need to repent after this one. For more info or to order head on over to www.othercinemadvd.com.
