Lawrence

Hey! You got your hardcore porn in my horror flick! Hey! You got your horror flick in my hardcore porn!

Salughter Disc, the disc that aims to slaughter. One thing that you'll have to keep in mind while watching, is that Slaughter Disc is essentially a horror and pornography film hybrid. Therefore, in the creative aspect of putting a production like this together, the pornography does indeed serve as equal imortance (at least to the producers) to the success of the production as the horror aspect. These genres have been fused together by Slaughter Disc's creative team for reasons they deem appropriate - being aesthetically pleasing, so forth and so on. Knowing about Slaughter Disc's hardcore tendancies before jumping in is really half the battle.

The story of Slaughter Disc centers around a porno addicted loner named Mike. Mike can't seem to keep relationships (friends or love interestes) because of his addiction to adult films (and masturbating). In addition, he's always on the lookout for something stronger, harder or more off the wall. After receiving a tip from a 'mysterious' video store clerk, Mike is introduced to Andromeda Strange, a goth like horror hostess who sells herself (and her DVDs) online. Mike makes the purchase, and 6 to 8 weeks later, he's popping his cork to his new DVD. Strange lives up to her name, big time. Her hardcore video is filled with guts, bizarre rituals and bloody masturbation sessions. Mike's interest intensifies as does Andromeda's and she eventually manifests herself into Mike's reality.

I have to admit that from my perspective, the horror sub plot came across slightly weaker than I'd have liked. For your consideration; The video store clerk who originally told Mike about the disc, yet he really 'wasn't there.' Or was he? The mystery of the DVD that doesn't look anything like a DVD, and the ghost like technology that conveniently blends itself into reality. It all came across a bit cliche and too convenient. Although I was impressed with how the crossover from Mike's reality to the DVD world of Andromeda Strange was handled. With clever use of menu designs and DVD technology, this aspect was handled in a very fitting form. Then there are the performances, most of which are below average (and I tend to cut much more slack for indie films), just not very convincing. Except of course for Andromeda Strange played by Caroline Pierce. Ironically enough, the most seasoned adult performer, throws in the most enthusiastic and fun performance here. Which is great, because this is Andromeda's show after all. I could have watched all of her scenes, and been completely happy in the end. A 40-minute, gory, hardcore video montage? Sure, I'm cheap and easy. It would have worked better as 15-20 minute clips over a feature length film, me thinks.

Going in, I knew what I was in store for, although I have to admit, the shock value was still there when Andromeda Strange inserted a dildo into her vagina, and proceeded to furiously masturbate until all we were left with was a hell of a bloody mess (and yet she continues to masturbate - what a trooper!). So for all you prudes out there who don't want to see full on hardcore masturbation, oral and penetration (with a bloody twist) - then stay away!

In the end, director David Quitmeyer has made an impressive looking low-budget film. I don't know how well the film will play to either the raincoat crowd or the horror nerds respectively, it's dificult to disect. If there is a hybrid group out there interested in blood-soaked pornography, then this film will certainly serve them well. In the end I think of Slaughter Disc, less of a horror movie with 'adult' elements, than I do a porno flick with some 'horror' element. I don't think this is what the filmmakers intended, but it's certainly how I percieved it. For better or for worse.

The barebones 'slaughter disc' I receieved contained the film and a teaser trailer. Audio and video quality were just what one would expect for a shot on video production. Clear image, audible crisp dialogue...no complaints here.

What's the bottom line then? I doubt that Slaughter Disc will make a successful cross over to the horror market. However, as a curiosty porn piece, the film is liklely to appeal to a niche adult audience. And who knows, there may be some horror nerd converts as well. The same rowdy group of folks here made a heck of a fun DVD called Clown Porn (It's scattered throughout this flick, you can't miss it) and it's an enjoyable comedic, hardcore romp. Chalk Slaughter Disc up to Steel Web Studio's hardcore horror romp. It was bound to happen sooner or later. Clown Porn is essentially a compilation of 'skits' and I think Slaughter Disc would have fared better under this format, rather than as a full length feature film...just my two-cents and that may be all it's worth.
