You know, or know somebody, who's worked with that real go-getter, fast-track type person - the one always making us drones look bad when the boss shows up. Alexandra is one of those 'alpha queens', and when things don't go her way watch out! Cross her, and you might not live to regret it. It's just another case of SIMPLE REVENGE.

Fat cat 'businessman' Jack relaxes with his chick of the day catching some rays. His lady friend has other ideas, like allowing her punk amigo Billy to get the drop on old Jack. They force Jack at gunpoint to reveal his safe's combination, but two detectives have arrived on the scene - Ed Monroe and Kate Kincaid. Billy makes a run for it, leaving Jack at the mercy of his ex. Before she can shoot her sugar daddy, Kate takes her out. Ed loses Billy in the alleys, but does recover Jack's money. Meanwhile, alpha queen Alex berates her co-workers. She's in line for the top job when the company president retires, or so she thinks. The president informs her he knows of her ruthless attitude, and he doesn't like it. He gives another VP, Ann, his job. Now didn't I say in the opening not to cross dear Alex? Alex makes contact with Ann's carpenter husband Jim to have a table made...and manipulates the books to keep Ann occupied during their 'meeting.' Sure enough, she seduces the dumbass. Later Alex badgers a contrite Jim, and plays the 'hurt other woman' when he refuses to see her again, threatening to tell Ann. A tearful Jack confesses first to his wife, who promptly throws his ass onto the street.

An angry Ann goes to confront Alex. In the heated exchange that follows, Ann is knocked backwards and breaks her neck on an end table. The ever-resourceful Alex quickly concocts a scheme and brings the body back to Ann's own house, manipulating things to frame that poor sucker Jim for the murder. Her plot seems to work without a hitch. However, Kate and Ed are put on the case, and together with the M.E., keep finding little 'inconsistencies' that implicate Alex. She's a sly one, though, and always has an answer for the police team. But Alex is feeling the heat, so it's time for phase two...calling Kate to her home for a 'conversation', the policewoman wakes up in her underwear in Alex's bed! What happened??? What happened is a set-up so dastardly that Kate is suspended from the force - oh that darn Alex! And when Ed starts turning up the heat, Alex arranges a surprise for him as well. Who can stop this black widow, this sleazy seductress from her quest for money and power? Nothing is simple in SIMPLE REVENGE.

Yeah, you got that right dude. SIMPLE REVENGE weaves a complex tale that just when you think you've figured it out, the story takes another turn. I kept thinking "they've got that bitch Alex now," only to have her weasel her way out of it again. At least until...well, that would be telling. The story ties up seemingly diverse plotlines together (i.e., there's a reason Jack's in the opening sequence). The twisty plot certainly hold the audience's attention, but I think the story goes to the well once too often, as the ending was a bit disappointing to me. There are only a few characters in the film, but all are fleshed out nicely. The main characters of Alex, Ed and Kate are really brought to life, through both script and acting. Speaking of which, the actors give very good performances; you really get involved with Kate and Ed in wanting to knock that bitch Alex off her pedestal. The editing is tight and the film is a very professional production. The quality is outstanding; it's like an updated version of 'Miami Vice,' with bold color and strong composition. The best word I can think of is 'slick' - SIMPLE REVENGE is one slick film. Audio is uniformly very good; no distortion and clear distinct sound. The music is rather routine, however. Overall, SIMPLE REVENGE is a tightly packed thriller with good actors portraying complex charters in a rollercoaster ride of what's gonna happen next.

SIMPLE REVENGE is being released on DVD with only a few extras (which were not on my screener). There will be the obligatory trailer and chapter stops, as well as a Spanish subtitle option. Also to be included are cast bios - I'd like to have seen those to see what else the talented crew has been in.

Said it before, and I'll say it again - nothing is simple in SIMPLE REVENGE. If you're a fan of 'Law & Order' cop shows, or 'Body Double' thrillers, then you'll want to check out SIMPLE REVENGE. It's what Alex wants...and what Alex wants, she gets...or else...
