Lawrence

2 words. Soledad Miranda.

For those not in the "know" she is the super sexy star of Vampyros Lesbos (another quality release from Synapse Films). Soledad returns in Director Jess Franco's equally kitsch, She Killed In Ecstasy. Using much of the same cast and crew from Lesbos, Director Franco, has created a film, I feel to be far superior to Lesbos, if that's even possible.

Soledad plays a woman, whose husband has been shunned by the medical community. Apparently he's been experimenting on embryos which seems to be frowned upon. He is banned from practicing medicine ever again. Obviously this is far too much for him to take, and he commits suicide. Devastated, his wife (Miranda) decides to avenge her husbands death, by punishing the 4 doctors (3 male, 1 female) for what they have done.

Franco favorite Howard Vernon, plays the first doctor to be taken out. Vernon's performance is top notch as usual. A word of warning, his performance includes a brief moment of full frontal nudity, yowza! If that's not disturbing enough, I don't know what is.

Highly sexual, and as erotic as a Franco film can get (believe me, you will feel dirty), She Killed is in my opinion the directors finest hour. Franco, playing one of the doctors, is the last to get it, and get it he does (if you know what I mean).

Unfortunately Miranda died at the age of 27 in a fatal car accident. She had collaberated 5 times with director Franco, and neither Lesbos nor She Killed, would have been the same without her.

She Killed is presented in a 1.66:1 widescreen transfer with nice, big removable yellow subtitles. The print used is not perfect; there are some light scratches throughout. Colors are strong, and the framing looks accurate. The bottom line is we're lucky to have this gem on DVD, and this is probably the best the film will ever look.

The mono soundtrack is fine, and dialogue is clear. The thought of having the jazzy soundtrack in a 5.1 mix is mouthwatering, but we all know that could never happen.

The only extra is a trailer, also with subs. It's pretty clean, and is a nice addition.

All in all, an excellent presentation from Synapse Films. Be sure to check out your local Best Buy, where this and quite a few other Synapse titles can be found for $14.99 each, quite a deal.
