True to the American ideals of truth, gallantry and justice stand the ultimate dynamic duo - RAT PFINK AND BOO BOO! One of the most notorious ‘camp classics’, RAT PFINK is truly a unique viewing experience from the amazing film catalog of Ray Dennis Steckler (and that’s saying something). So sit back, grab a bag o’ popcorn and remember Boo Boo, we only have one weakness…

We dissolve into the scene of a lone woman walking through the city at night - not a good idea. Because the notorious Chain Gang spots her and begin their torment. Chasing the poor woman around the streets and alleys, they finally catch her, beat her and steal her money. The gang races off as she slides down the stairs, screaming all the way…

Cut to Lonnie Lord, rock star. He’s a hit with the kids and has a grand time with his hottie girlfriend Cee Bee. As they frolic to the sounds of Lonnie’s latest hit single, the Chain Gang sits around bored - they haven't done a thing since last night. Picking a name at random in the phone book, the gang begins their next game of terrorizing. Yep, it’s none other than Cee Bee, and prank phone calls from the miscreants interrupt her bubble bath. She is stalked by one of the gang when she walks to the store later, and that night Cee Bee is frightened by more prank calls and a window tapping thug. The next day, she tries to forget the alarming events by joining Lonnie at a pool party, but the gang calls her there ands continue their assault. Freaked out, Cee Bee heads back home, only to find the gang waiting for her! She is kidnapped, and her humble gardener Titus is beat up as well. Lonnie laments his lost girl, and knows he can't meet the gang’s ransom demands. There’s only on thing Lonnie and Titus can do - it’s time for you know and who! The rest you can kind of figure out as out intrepid (and inept) heroes go to rescue the girl, defeat the gang, face off with a gorilla and save the day for the American way of life! God bless America! God bless Rat Pfink and Boo Boo!

If Ray Dennis Steckler is remembered for nothing else, he should be remembered for RAT PFINK AND BOO BOO, a film that is the very definition of cult classic. In an interview on the DVD, Steckler admits he was influenced by the original 'Batman' serial, and always wanted make a movie of the Dynamic Duo. So RAT PFINK became Ray’s chance to make his childhood dream come true. It has all those great ‘Steckler’ moments - long chase scenes (from the initial mugging of the woman to a zany chase on the Rat-cycle), funky musical montages (with a great ‘60’s rock sound by Ron Haydock, a.k.a. Vin Saxon, a.k.a. Lonnie Lord), and absolute bizarreness - wait until you meet Kogar, the swingin’ ape! Acting is by the ‘regulars’ - Steckler’s kin and associates - but all do fine jobs in RAT PFINK’S wacky escapades. The music, and I would be remiss not to note the excellent theme song - is an outstanding blend of sixties surf rock and be-bop jazz. Now for all you completists out there…this DVD reissue by Media Blasters is different from the RAT PFINK video released by Camp Video, oh so many years ago. While the disc starts right in on the mean streets, the video has a three minute ‘prologue’, using parade footage of Rat Pfink and his chum, as well as their appearance at a birthday party. Additionally, the DVD includes extra footage of the climatic chase between Rat Pfink, Boo Boo and the gang. However, the DVD is far and away superior to the video in terms of quality. Steckler utilizes color gels for RAT PFINK AND BOO BOO (just to do something different); blue for the suspense scenes, an orange glow when Rat Pfink’s on screen, and sepia when for the rest. The video is very dark as to be almost unwatchable, but the DVD is cleaned up, cleared up and so much better - you can actually see everything! Audio is also much better, no hum or pops as in the video. While the ‘intro’ version is pretty neat, it’s not really necessary - the much better quality more than makes up for it’s absence on DVD (although it would have been a nice extra).

Speaking of which, Media Blasters has done their usual fine job in the release of RAT PFINK AND BOO BOO on DVD. There is a lengthily interview with Steckler that fills in much of the background of not only the film, but also the man behind it. A must-see. Ray also is featured in a full-length commentary, where he spins stories about everyone who worked on the film - did you know his editor and sound guy was Keith Wester, who later was nominated for six Academy Awards for sound? RAT PFINK is were Steckler gave him his start! There are also music video galleries (taken from the film), a photo/art gallery of RAT PFINK images, and the obligatory trailers. There is an option to view the film in straight black & white for the mundanes who can't handle the color tones (they add that lil’ extra, like Emeril’s BAM!). Oh, and you get an official RAT PFINK AND BOO BOO sticker too!

In a world fraught with troubles, it’s nice to know there are down-to-Earth heroes looking out for the common man; heroes like RAT PFINK AND BOO BOO. Once you’ve seen them, you’ll never forget them, and you’ll never forget this film. Steckler threw everything into his movie pot and what came out was RAT PFINK AND BOO BOO - the ultimate camp classic! Fifty years from now, the next generations will look up to Rat Pfink and they too will FIGHT CRIME!

*Yes, the official title is RAT PFINK A BOO BOO - listen to Steckler’s commentary to find out more!
