Lawrence

I'll be the first to admit that Seduction Cinema has been releasing some truly eclectic examples of erotic cinema on DVD. They've got their own home grown titles that are either horror or spoof related as well as my own personal favorite, their retro erotic titles coupled with their own "re-imagining" of each title. The latest Retro-Seduction-Cinema title released under this moniker is the long forgotten 70's grind house flick Pleasures of A Woman.

The running time is brief and so is the plotline. When Lynn attends her Uncle's funeral, she crashes with her supposed conniving aunt Martine. Martine you see is a sexpot, and she doesn't waste any time in introducing Lynn to this wonderful world of drinking, drugs and heavy petting debauchery. They spend some time together and then they spend some time together! The Seduction Cinema remake also found on this disc gleefully replicates a few "key" scenes from the original with a few Seduction Cinema favorites starring including Darian Caine and Julian Wells.

As stated in the interview on this disc with "42nd Street Pete" director Nick Phillips doesn't feel the need to slow his flicks down with any of the usual filler. Pleasures of a Woman runs about an hour and that's about an hour of pure erotic action to you and me. Mostly girl/girl save for one guy/girl scene, it all ain't too shabby. No time is wasted here and let me say that if the shoe fetish bit doesn't catch you by off guard, well it should!

The Seduction Cinema remake is also an admirable effort here and as usual the Seduction Cinema chicks on display here are smokin'! As stated earlier the remake re creates a couple of key scenes from the original film, but what we have here pretty much amounts to a few decent soft-core girl/girl scenes hittin' ya one right after another. Just in case you were wondering... the crazy shoe fetish bit has returned for the remake. Oh joy of joys!

The original Pleasures of a Woman holds up considerably well on this DVD considering what we have to deal with. This film was probably shot with a Bolex camera and the cheapest of film stock and I'm sure that absolutely no care went into the proper storage of this film over the past 30 years. There is plenty of print damage here and grain is inevitable throughout. I was however surprised to discover that colors hold up quite well and appear sharp and vibrant in many scenes. Of course the remake was shot on video so it looks just fine. The disc has been cleanly authored with no visible evidence of pixilation.

Audio on the '72 version of Pleasures of a Woman is presented in a competent mono mix. There isn't any sync sound, it's all an overdub and when there is dialogue in the narration it's nice and clear. There's really not much in the way of background noise or hiss either. Of course the audio track for the remake is near spotless.

As if it weren't enough to have two versions of the film on this DVD there are a few extras to keep you busy as well. In addition to trailers for both versions of the film, there are also assorted trailers present for about 10 other Seduction Cinema titles as well. Other extras include a fold out booklet and a brief (as well as interesting) interview with grind house film historian 42nd Street Pete.

These retro discs from Seduction Cinema are a lot of fun. You get the best of both worlds in a classic slice of erotica as well as a unique modern spin. Pleasures of a Woman is a neatly packaged special edition that shouldn't do anything but please fans of erotic cinema past and present. It's old school and new school erotica fun for everyone!
