Lawrence

A video store favorite from the late 80's; PIN is a disturbing tale of a brother, a sister, and PIN the life size anatomical dummy, that teaches them about life.

Brother and sister, Leon and Ursula are very close. Their father (Terry O'Quinn of The Stepfather series) has no problem communicating with his children. As long as it's through PIN. PIN sits upright in a chair, and the children listen and obey his every word. Leon is particularly protective of PIN and won't allow a bad word to be said about him.

After a terrible car accident, the children and PIN are left to fend for themselves. Ursula starts to doubt PIN and his ability to dispense knowledge, while Leon slowly starts to sink into a sea of madness. Leon will not let anyone get in the way of his perfect little family.

This Canadian production, got little or no theatrical play at its time of release, the distributors had no idea how to market it. With very little to no violence or nudity, as a psychological horror film, they didn't think it would have the "punch" it would need to strike a chord with the public. PIN was sent straight to video and became a bit of a cult classic.

PIN is presented in its original 1:85:1 aspect ratio, in a nice anamorphic transfer. The picture quality is very crisp, and the widescreen transfer opens up some more information on the sides, unavailable in previous video releases.

The Dolby 2.0 surround is pleasing, and dialogue is crisp and clear. It wasn't until this release that I realized how effective the score actually is.

Extras include a mildly entertaining audio commentary track with Director Sandor Stern, and journalist Ted Newsom. There is also a theatrical trailer, that gives away too much information, be sure to watch it after the movie, if it's your first time.

Considering PIN can be purchased for under $20.00 online, it's definitely worth the investment for new comers. Fans of the film should be pleasantly surprised, as the film has held up well over the years, and is still able to disturb. Another fine job by Anchor Bay, for a forgotten classic.
