Well, when the folks over at Astaroth Entertainment say that they specialize in "erotic horror" they're not kidding. My only other exposure to their work thus far has been the first two installments of Faces of Gore and while it lacked the eroticism (at least for me) it was certainly horrific. The Necro Files on the other hand could easily be placed into this "erotic horror" category and it would never be accused of misrepresentation. This flick is so off the wall and over the top - I'm not quite sure where I should begin.

Two hometown cops are hot on the trail of a brutal serial rapist/murderer crazy guy type (his name is Logan). His latest victim was ravaged, stabbed, gutted and had her nipple sliced off (partially eaten, then thrown up). Our two heroes make it to the scene and one of the cops flips out shooting Logan to death. 9-months later and a flubbed Satanists ceremony brings Logan back from the dead, and apparently things haven't changed one bit. Let me explain a little - the Satanists just happen to have their ceremony above Logan's grave. They sacrifice a baby (which is clearly a doll - it's supposed to look silly) and urinate on the grave. Logan awakens in just enough time to do most of the Satanists in, including ripping off the urinating guys penis.

Logan continues his rampage (now a card carrying member of the undead and deteriorating more and more each day) of rape and murder with just about every girl he can find. Have you ever seen a zombie with a seven-inch boner? You will. In the mean time the two Satanists who escaped (they only joined the sect to meet girls!) inadvertently bring the sacrificed baby (remember him?) back to life that in turn flies around town latching onto just about any victim he can find. The sight of this baby flying around is horrifically hilarious and a great gag presented in such poor taste. All the while our two police friends sink deeper into madness while on the trail of Logan and the flying killer baby.

If the whole thing sounds a bit over the top and ridiculous - well, make no mistake about it, it is. Necro Files is nothing more than a bunch of grotesque set ups laid on pretty thick, one right after another. Logan's female murder victims are a bunch of poor random saps including a young girl in a tent who's boyfriend just stormed off unsatisfied and a few chicks who look like they just returned from a shift at Goth's 'R' Us. The gore level is high and way out there including multiple stabbings, gunshots, flesh eating, axe wielding - you name it, it's here. Did I mention the flying, flesh-eating baby? Yeah, they got one of those too. Other highlights include a young lady sharing a special moment with a blow up doll and Logan in turn falling in love with said doll and sharing his own special moment with it.

Performances, in line with the rest of the flick are also over the top as well (almost as over the top as the gore and nudity), including those of the two lead policemen - and at times are almost unbearably bad. Luckily a shot of the flying baby of doom or Logan's 7-inch zombie penis aren't usually far behind, it helps to ease the pain. Effects are all fairly convincing, including Logan's zombie make up, you can never go wrong with some old school zombie make up. I admire The Necro Files, the flick has a lot of chutzpah - you're probably just gonna want to watch this one alone, or at the very least with your therapist. The Necro Files is NOT afraid to go too far.

Quality wise you get what you'd expect from such a low budget SOV feature. Colors appear to be fairly accurate, there are a few wacky lighting schemes that stand to enhance the whole atmosphere. The disc features only a slight bit of artifacting, primarily in a few of the darker scenes. Dialogue is clear, only a few scenes exhibit some slight mic problems, overall dialogue sounds fine.

While the box states 90-minutes, the flick itself runs just about 70 - and there are no extras, unless you consider 8 chapter stops a bonus. While the $30 price tag may be a bit steep for some, The Necro Files is naughty, gory and over the top fun. This is not an example of high art here folks, and the filmmakers obviously know this. The whole affair is very tongue in cheek almost as if Logan is winking at us as he balls some chick with his 7-inch zombie penis (I just had to fit that in again). The story is obviously there to carry us from one scene of grotesqueness to the next, nothing more and nothing less. Should you be checkin' out a copy of The Necro Files? I dunno, I guess it all depends on how much you like to share with your priest or rabbi - or how bad you wanna check out a 7-inch zombie penis (gotcha!).
