Asia Pulp Cinema continues to pump the oddities out on DVD, this time with some extremely bizarre comedic erotic fare. Naughty Guide to Tokyo Nightlife is a slapstick erotic comedy, and is certainly unlike anything I've ever seen before. It's really all just soft-core erotic fun with a weird cultural twist that will molst likely make you snicker just as often as it leaves you scratching your head.

Naughty Guide revolves around these Fantasy Sex Clubs that I'm assuming are really big in Tokyo, or perhaps I've just been living under a rock because I've never heard of them. These Fantasy Clubs feature women who place men into any sexual fantasy situation they want (and believe me, there are many!) The catch is there is no "vaginal sex" as they say. This I didn't quite understand, because both participants strip down (bare assed mind you) and bump and grind, but that's as far as it's supposed to go. The running gag here is that the men always want the "vaginal sex" or "butt sex" or "up the old poop shoot" you name it.

In any event a bunch of yentas that work at these Fantasy Clubs swap stories over some lox and whitefish salad one fateful evening. OK, I lied, there's no lox or whitefish salad, at least I don't think there was. The stories range from the mildly erotic to the somewhat disturbing, but they all seem to retain a lighthearted feel through out, luckily the flick never takes itself too seriously.

The first story revolves around a young engaged man who becomes addicted to these Fantasy Clubs. They ultimately ruin his life as he loses his job and his bride to be. The second story revolves around an imposter who is given the royal treatment at a fantasy club while impersonating a columnist (of course hilarity ensues). The third story is the most disturbing of all. A man who frequents these Fantasy Clubs can't separate the fantasy from the reality. If the fantasy involves a female cop, the next day he'll sexually assault a female cop (weird!). Need I mention the fact that one of his fantasies involves very naughty schoolgirls? Yeah, you know what happens next...creepy!

The fantasies encompass a broad range from the basic order like schoolgirl or stewardess, to the completely bizarre (a guy getting off from a girl in a Godzilla costume!). The action never really crosses the line although there are quite a few close calls. There's a broad range of comedy present as well, and while some of it works, there are moments that can't seem to cross over the cultural barriers.

Along with the erotic comes the mildly disturbing, like the aforementioned Godzilla fantasy along with a bit concerning a timid man who takes the fantasy a bit too far. Asking the girl to marry him (mid bump and grind session), when she refuses, he rapes her (forcing her into "vaginal sex" as they say) while she grasps the ring box tightly in her hand. Weird!

Shot on video, Naughty Guide makes the transition to DVD quite well. Colors are extremely sharp and vibrant and there is very little by way of digital artifacting. The non-anamorphic widescreen transfer looks great, for what it's worth.

Audio options include English or Japanese with or without subtitles. The stereo sound on both tracks sounds fine with no distortion. Although, the English dub track while a bit silly, has its audio punched up a bit more. Both tracks feature completely different background soundtracks as well with the English track sporting some crazy club music that screams cheesy porno.

So you got your sexy Asian dames and your lighthearted international comedy. The package is rounded out with about 5 trailers for other Asia Pulp Cinema titles as well as a trailer for Naughty Guide. There's also a sexy still gallery and a host of DVD Rom material including more photos, script pages (?) etc. Look all I'm saying here is how can a film be bad when the first words of dialogue uttered are "Your fantasy is to become a molester and a panty thief?" Exactly.
