There are some films that come along, that I find extremely hard to write about. Usually, it's a film that hits both ends of the spectrum for me. There tends to be a lot of things I really enjoy in the film and an equal amount of things that I'm not as crazy about. These two shorts encompass both ends of the spectrum for me. It makes it twice as hard when you're dealing with a film that has a fetish theme. The topics are as varied as the people who enjoy extreme kink. It's nearly impossible to please everyone. If you already know that this isn't a topic you're interested in or graphic sexuality offends you, you might want to pass over this one.

Both short films, The Elegant Spanking and The Black Glove, deal with lesbian S&M erotica. They were both filmed in black and white and cover a large spectrum of fetishes. Both are presented full frame here, their original ratio. There is no dialog in either of these films but The Elegant Spanking is presented very much like a silent picture. There is a running soundtrack and lines of thought or dialog between scenes. The Black Glove has a soundtrack as well, but no text to accompany the imagery this time.

In The Elegant Spanking, a scene plays out between Rosemary Delain (the dominant) and Maria Beatty (the submissive maid). The following scenes contain a lot of different fetishes, including water sports, spankings, foot worship, and mutual female masturbation. The running time for this short film is about forty-five minutes but it unfortunately tends to feel a little long and drawn out.

The quality of this film was extremely crisp with a lot of contrast in the black and white image including the costuming and the set. It looks simply wonderful. I had one problem with it though. As much as I liked the look of the film, there was surprisingly enough little passion or heat within the actresses. It seemed cold and almost clinical at times. Almost like reading a text book on fetishes. The facial expressions and the movement (which become twice as important in a silent film) were lacking here.

In The Black Glove, Maria Beatty is again the submissive in the scene and Mistress Morgana plays the dominant. This film has a little bit of everything, from waxing, asphyxiation, foot worship, and rope bondage. The running time for this short is about thirty minutes and it moved at a better pace than The Elegant Spanking.

Also presented in black and white, it appeared a bit more grainy than the previous short. The lighting was not as sharp and a lot of detail was lost in some under lit shots. There was a great potential for the look of this film. The costuming was really beautiful. There was a lot of black leather and silver buckles but with the poor lighting you lost a solid amount of atmosphere. The soundtrack was a little different in this one coming across at times as a bit of a distraction. I liked the content a whole lot better in this one but, again, there was almost a complete lack of passion as in the previous film.

There's not much here as far as special features go. There are some trailers for other Blue Production movies but that was about it. The Elegant Spanking is subtitled in English, French, Swedish, Dutch, German, and Spanish, however, there are no subtitles or dialog for The Black Glove.

On a whole I like fetish and erotic films. Most of it is about the look. Both of these movies had a great look about them and the scenes could have been more affecting if they would have put some reaction and passion into the content. I would have been sold on both films under these circumstances. The way they are actually choreographed left a lot to be desired. It seemed very cold and impersonal. None of the people in the movies seemed particularly happy to be doing what they were doing. It was a bit of a turn off for me. If you're only looking for the costuming and the act itself, you'll love it. If you're looking for something with a little more substance, unfortunately you're not going to find it here.
