Where would we be without movie trailer compilations? Or movie trailers for that matter. We love trailers; it's a proven fact. We like to get to the theater early to catch...the trailers. We piss and moan when a new DVD comes out and it doesn't have any...trailers. We'll watch specific shows on TV or jump online to watch the premier of a new movie...trailer. Do you see where I'm going with this?
A while back, a new company popped up on the scene named Ban 1 Productions and they released an incredible compilation of...yup, you guessed it...movie trailers on DVD. And while the packaging promised a horror fest, the actual content was (thankfully) more varied including horror, sex films, general exploitation etc. It was a nice mix of trashy fun, and there were a heck of a lot of great...trailers on there. With promises of another round to follow, Synapse Films got a hold of these guys and between the two of 'em they've just released 42nd Street Forever Volume #1, an equally eclectic collection of (say it again)...trailers.
With this release, both Synapse and Ban 1 mix it up a bit. While there are a few 'carry overs' from the original (and long out of print) release from Ban 1, most of the content presented here is exclusive to this release. Oh, and Synapse was clever enough to throw in a few trailers for some of their own releases as well ;)
Let's take a look at some of the high points this disc has to offer, shall we?
Undertaker and His Pals - Great classic trailer. Dig that snappy tune. The Flesh and Blood Show - Where everyone is a suspect! Women and Bloody Terror / Night of Bloody Horror - featuring the 'All American Boy' that loves and loves and loves and... I Dismember Mama / Blood Spattered Bride - Another classic trailer that never gets old. If you've seen this double feature trailer, you'll never forget it. If you haven't seen it, you have to! Corruption - "No woman will go home alone!" Italian Stallion - Sylvester Stallone in an adult film? No thanks! But maybe... Cream Puffs - Edwige Fenech in a Sergio Martino directed sex comedy! Panorama Blue - Sex on a rollercoaster? Outrageous! Wicked Wicked - Worst theme song ever, but starring Tiffany Bolling ;) looks like great trashy fun, from MGM? Teenage Mother - Wowza. You have to hear the way the narrator says the words, 'Teenage Mother, means 9-months of trouble!' - creepy as all hell. There will be an informative lecture following the film, no really! There will be! Pink Angels - A gay motorcycle gang! You need to see this one in order to believe it! Then there is the ultimate beauty that is known as Christina Lindberg in a trio of trailers (The Depraved, They Call Her One Eye, Maid in Sweden) Ahhhhhhh, Christina, such a beauty...and what a rack! Death Drive - Starring David Hess, and he's as creepy as ever. And then there's more, more, more and even more!
Complete listing of trailers on the disc (those marked with a * are not listed on the back of the box) - The Undertaker And His Pals, Flesh And Blood Show, Women And Bloody Terror/Night Of Bloody Horror, I Dismember Mama/The Blood Spattered Bride, Corruption, The Butcher Of Binbrook, Ginger, Italian Stallion, Creampuffs, The Three Dimensions Of Greta, Hard Candy, The Centerfold Girls, Panorama Blue, Wicked Wicked, Teenage Mother, Charlie And The Hooker, Matango, The Green Slime, Destroy All Monsters, The Crippled Masters, Werewolves On Wheels, The Pink Angels, The Depraved (a.k.a. Exposed), They Call Her One Eye (a.k.a. Thriller), Maid In Sweden, Behind Convent Walls, Secret Africa, Shocking Asia, Chappaqua, Welcome Home Brother Charles, The Legend Of Nigger Charlie*, Boss Nigger*, The 44 Specialist, The Bullet Machine, Death Drive, The Raiders Of Atlantis, Star Crash, Confessions Of A Summer Camp Counselor, Sunset Cove, Superfuzz, Death Will Have Your Eyes, Death Has Blue Eyes, A Black Veil For Lisa, Ironmaster, The Deadly Spawn, The Rape Of The Sabines and The Devil's Nightmare.
Surprisingly enough, there's a certain level of quality consistency throughout, something I wasn't expecting. There are some nicks and scratches and some trailers fare slightly better than others, but overall, these trailers are presented in bang up anamorphic quality. Audio is clear with no distractions to speak of. No extras here, but with over 2 hours of exploitation trailers, what would you expect? In the end, this great party disc comes highly recommended.
