Seduction Cinema has just returned with their latest tantalizing and erotic treat to hit DVD, and the lovely Ms. Misty Mundae has thankfully decided to come along for the ride. It's nice to see that Dr. Jekyll & Mistress Hyde is a bit of a departure from Seduction Cinema's more recent tongue in cheek productions, variety is certainly good. Presented as a limited numbered (20,000 units) special edition, Mistress Hyde is just packed to the brim with Seduction Cinema goodness and fans of the label should be ultimately pleased.
Julian Wells stars as Dr. Jackie Stevenson, a therapist kinda scientist (you be the judge) who believes that locked within every woman is both a pure side and a lustful side. She believes that women are in a constant battle with these two conflicting sides (the lady and the whore, awwww yeahhh), so she has developed a serum that allows the woman to freely explore her lustful side and break away from any inhibitions she might have. Dr. Stevenson tests her serum on Martine (Mundae sporting a god awful black wig) one of her star patients. The serum turns Martine into a sexual beast as she throws a fit, tearing the place to shit with the grand finale finding her masturbating in the corner of the room. Pleasing herself just ain't enough as Martine proceeds to tear Dr. Stevenson's clothes off and ravish her as well. Unfortunately Martine is unable to snap out of her sexual frenzy and winds up in a straight jacket while Stevenson just writes it off as a loss to an overdose.
Unable to get Martine out of her head, Stevenson injects herself with the serum turning into her alter ego, Heidi (get it? Jackie and Heidi ::chuckle::). Heidi takes to the streets and picks up a young streetwalker named Dawn (also played by Mundae in a sexilicous schoolgirl outfit - yum!) and seduces her by strategically placing her hand up her skirt (works every time). The two head to an abandoned warehouse and make it (if you know what I mean) afterwards taking some much needed time to reflect. What follows are multiple scenes of seduction and deception, the beauty of it all being that nobody is able to recognize Jackie when she takes on the persona of Heidi (it's the glasses and pulled up hair I tells ya!) including Dawn, her oversexed maid (Ruby LaRocca), or even her husband. Along the way, both Dawn and Heidi (or is it Jackie?) seduce and deceive some real cuties (sometimes even together) along with Stevenson's inattentive husband.
How does Dr. Jekyll and Mistress Hyde stack up against the other films in the Seduction Cinema library? Quite well, I'd have to say. Obviously these films are geared towards a specific audience, but if you're a newcomer to this type of soft-core erotica, Mistress Hyde would be as good a place to start as any. The flick makes some serious attempts at style and at times retains quite an eerie look and quality about it, which is actually quite effective. Granted, this is not award winning filmmaking here, but for fans of Mundae and the other gals of Seduction Cinema, you can't do much better than Mistress Hyde.
Performances are all at about the level that one would expect from a production of this caliber. Hell, who's coming into this flick looking for quality performances anyway? The lovely ladies here do the best with what they've been given, and as evidenced by the behind the scenes materials, they all seem to be quite smart and on the ball (well, most of them anyway). The soft core scenes are prettty steamy and sultry, make sure you pick up an extra box of Kleenex this week.
Quality wise, the flick holds up extremely well on DVD. Shot on video, colors remain sharp and solid and considering how much content has been packed onto this disc (more on this in a bit) there is no evidence of digital artifacting to be found. Audio is presented in a decent stereo surround mix and also holds up really well. The music (also featured on a bonus CD included) is fairly effective with an infectious bubble gum pop type song entitled Something's Come Over You that makes periodic appearances throughout the film. I cannot get this song out of my head, I've been playing it over and over and over and over (you get the idea) again.
Extras are where this disc truly shines, and are definitely the icing on the cake. Let's start out slow with the usual selection of Seduction Cinema and Retro Seduction Cinema trailers (believe me, there are plenty of them) along with a trailer for Mistress Hyde. Next up are about 6 minutes of interviews with Mundae and Wells. Most importantly, we're treated to a behind the scenes segment that runs just shy of 80-minutes! This here is the money shot and an absolute MUST for fans of Mundae and LaRocca. From the gals hitting the Newark NJ airport to catch a flight to LA, to driving on the LA freeways this piece is just jam packed with candid footage of the Seduction Cinema gals on and off the set. Other highlights include footage in the ladies hotel room, sight seeing in LA, more crazy behind the scenes shenanigans than you can shake a stick at and Misty interjecting the words "choking on cock" into a conversation (my stars!). Of course with the good comes the disturbing, including a bit in which Julian Wells pretends to be Osama Bin Laden being interviewed - making bizarre claims about 9-11, man it was just even too weird for me. The final extra is the bonus CD I spoke of earlier that features the films original score - 18 tracks in all (along with multiple versions of the ever so addictive tune Something's Come Over You - YES!).
Overall, this one gets high marks all around from me and is easily an essential purchase for Misty fans, you know who you are! Is it wrong for me to be slowly falling in love with Ms. Mundae? - Yeah probably. Seduction Cinema's flicks just keep getting better (for what it's worth) and the girls even more attractive. The 80-minute behind the scenes segment is pretty spectacular, to say the least. This flick serves its purpose and it serves it well - if there's one thing that Dr. Jekyll and Mistress Hyde does, it's deliver on its promises, what more could one ask for?
