Out with the old and in with the new. It's never been more evident with Seduction Cinema than it is with their most recent erotic feature, Curious Obsessions. Less a film than it is a 75-minute music video (producer Michael Raso even comments on this fact as well) or bizarro concept film laced with soft-core sex. The films stars two Seduction Cinema newbies (Bethany Lott and Jackie Stevens) who have barely had enough time to get their feet wet. This is especially hard for me, because when I think of Seduction Cinema, I think of Misty Mundae (as I'm sure many of you do). While she's currently on her own (under the name Erin Brown) and no longer starring in newly produced SC films, it's worth noting that SC seems to have more than a few Misty films in the pipeline. Being exceptionally strategic in their release dates, spacing them out even more so than usual, the average Joe would think that Misty has just cut down on her output, rather than leaving their employ completely.
All is not a loss though. Jackie Stevens (who's only starred in one other SC film to date, Lust in Space) is the first gal I'd say stands as a serious contender to take Misty's throne. Jackie is another dark haired cutie, who appears sweet and innocent on the outside (and we all know what that means). Girl next door-ish if you will and very likeable. Bethany on the other hand reminds me more of Darian Caine - a bit more rebellious, tattooed (in my opinion, in all the wrong places) and unfortunately, not my cup of tea. During the extra features segment, she mentions having been shot at one point in her life...so there you go.
Curious Obsessions concerns two female roommates (at least I'm assuming they are roommates) who receive a mysterious priority mail package at their door one day. They crack open the box, only to find a 16mm projector and film reel inside. They stare and examine until Jackie finally exclaims, "Have you watched the tape yet?" And there you have it. The reel contains classic nudie loops from the 60's and as the two watch the flickering beauties take it all off, they get hotter and hotter for one another themselves.
So what happens next? They roll around with each other, watch each other masturbate, and wrap themselves up in the film reels themselves as they pawn all over each other. What else would you suspect? There's very little dialogue during the films brief 75-minute runtime, but it's not too hard to figure out what's going on. Possessed by the bizarre projector, the two just can't get enough of each other. 'Nuff said?
Director John Bacchus does a fine job in adding a touch of class to the production by giving it a real film-like look and a solid anamorphic image. While one could argue that the only reason this film was even conceived and executed to begin with was to show off a series of nudie loops EI Cinema had acquired in a bulk deal, Bacchus still manages to handle the whole scenario (from the director's chair) quite nicely. Through the use of soft focus, playing with color saturation and non-intrusive optical effects, Bacchus has crafted a soft-core adult film that is pleasant to watch.
Presented in a fine anamorphic release on DVD, Curious Obsessions provides little for one to complain about in the A/V dept. Image is clear and all of the camera/editing tricks employed come across quite nicely. Visually, it's a very nice film to watch. Audio provides clear dialogue (what little there is) with cool music from The Ubangies and Pink Delicates.
Extras include The Genesis of Curious Obsessions (4-min) as told by producer Michael Raso, a brief 5-min behind-the-scenes segment, a deleted scene from the SC film Spider Babe starring Bethany Lott (in a rare SC guy/girl moment) and a whopping 9 trailers for Seduction Cinema films, Curious Obsessions included.
While there's not as much substance as some of their previous releases may hold, Curious Obsessions is an interestingly executed erotic feature. Very little story + plenty of girl/girl action = you do the math. I suspect that those who are interested will know exactly what they are getting themselves into. In my opinion, worth the price of admission to say that you knew Jackie Stevens before she made it big.
