Wren

Well, folks, the sun is out, the birds are singing, and I thought there'd be no better way to celebrate the first hints of Spring than to sit down with CinemaSky's release of Creepy Tales. After all, with three tales of love and mayhem how could you go wrong? So, I grabbed some coffee and settled in for a little fun - in short story form.

In our first tale, Sins Of The Father, a couple in love ban together to rid the world of the lowest form of life. Pedophiles of the priesthood beware because Ray and Nevada have a plot for revenge that that will make the powerful that prey on the innocent pay. Personally, I think they should start showing this to Priests in seminary school. Add an ending of Shakespearean proportions that would make Juliet herself weep and you got yourself a priest 'bashing good time!'

Next up is Daria 13. Mike is an idealistic film writer who has not managed to sell a script and is unhappy with the eye candy movies of today. He longs for fame and notoriety, convinced that it's the only way to live on after you die. His lover, Daria, tries to tell him that she doesn't need fame or fortune. She loves him whether he makes it big or not. Mike seems to be hearing something very different from his loves lips though. Further proof (if it was needed), that men often only hear exactly what they want to, even when the woman's lips aren't moving. As it turns out, Mike has a plan for fame after all. Something tells me that Daria isn't going to be as taken with the idea as he is.

In Portrait In Hell, Jim is an artist that's about to lose it all due to a work overload. His personal relationships have gone down the tubes and Jim would give just about anything to catch a break and make it big. When the Devil comes calling to offer him all of his dreams on a silver platter (the usual cost, of course), Jim counters with a deal of his own. He proposes to create a portrait that captures the Devil's true essence. If he can pull it off he'll get fame, fortune, and still get to keep his soul. It looks like Jim's finally found a project he can sink his heart and soul into but watch out, that Devil can be tricky!

Creepy Tales was a really great B style horror film. It was very reminiscent of the old Saturday Night Dead episodes with a little Tales From The Darkside thrown in for good measure. They started off with three very simple but attention grabbing stories and didn't try to make them more than they were. They didn't stretch beyond the limits that the simple stories set. Those involved worked within the means of a smaller budget and came away with a movie that was a whole lot of fun to watch.

Other than a trailer that is in with the chapter selection, there wasn't too much going on in the special features department. The movie is presented full frame and stays pretty sharp thoughout. The music, brought to us by Scott Schiaffo, lent a very campy feel to the stories. It really rounded out the production and added a little something extra.

Overall, this was a great indie b-movie. It really reminded me of the short campfire stories that made me fall in love with this genre in the first place. They were silly and predictable but if they told the story just right you were a little creeped out and smiling at the end. It's definitely worth a look for anyone who used to stay up far to late to watch really bad horror!
