Lawrence

What's in the basket?

The answer to this question, is one you probably don't want to know.

Duane Bradly seeks revenge, on the doctors, who separated him from his Siamese twin brother Belial. Belial was born attached to Duane's side, and didn't exactly look, how should we say, normal. Duane's father seeks out some barely qualified doctors, to separate the two, and they leave Belial for dead. Belial survives, and Duane now carries him in a basket with him everywhere he goes. Duane and Belial head for New York, to carry out their plan of revenge.

The two set up residence in a sleazy hotel, and meet up with a whole cast of disturbing characters, including an overly friendly prostitute (Beverly Bonner).

Things get nasty as Duane unleashes Belial on the doctors who did them wrong. One by one they're taught lessons, they will never forget. Things get even stranger when Duane meets a young lady (Teri Susan Smith) he fancies. Belial will have nothing to do with this, and his anger leads to one of the most disturbing scenes in the movie, and quite possibly one of the most disturbing scenes in movie history.

Basket Case is good gory fun, and fans of the film should be extremely happy with this definitive DVD release of the film. Basket Case has quite simply never looked this good. That's not to say there aren't problems. However, we must remember that Basket Case was shot on 16mm, on a very low budget. There is some grain present, but the picture is sharp and clear, and the colors are outstanding.

The sound is Dolby Digital Mono, and is as clear as it can be. There are some slight problems, but once again, these are products of the low budget origin of the film. This is the best presentation of one of the greatest horror films of the 80's a fan could ask for.

Something Weird has done a fine job, but the fun doesn't stop there. There are plenty of extras to keep you busy. There is an audio commentary with Director, Frank Henenlotter, producer Edgar Levinsand actress Beverly Bonner (who stops in just for a bit) Two theatrical Trailers and a TV spot, which are fun, and truly let you, see the difference in picture quality, from the feature itself. You get outtakes and behind the scenes footage which are also great fun, a photo gallery, 2 radio spots, 2 radio interviews with Teri Susan Smith, Clips from Beverly Bonner's cable TV show, and more. Whew! Don't forget to look for the easy to find easter egg.

Bottom line, any self-respecting horror fan needs to run out and grab this DVD. There is simply no excuse for not purchasing it right now!
