Amuck! Stars both Barbara Bouchet and Rosalba Neri, nuff said?
Greta (Bouchet) takes a job as a secretary for an author, Richard Stewart (Farley Granger) in Venice. It turns out, Greta's missing friend Sally, was Richards's previous secretary. Greta just wants to get to the bottom of her friend's disappearance. In the mean time, Eleanora (Neri) Richards's wife, takes a real liking to Greta. It isn't long before things get steamy, between just about every interested party. Flash forward, while watching a stag film, during a very "adults only" party, Greta, sees images of Sally, that just seem to complicate things even more.
Amuck! Is definitely an above average thriller, coming from a time, when these films, were a dime a dozen. Having Neri and Bouchet in the same film, is enough to warrant a purchase, from any fan.
Amuck is presented full frame, which is a shame, because it was shot in scope, 2.35:1. Luckily much of the action seems to take place in the center of the screen, so it doesn't appear that we are really missing much important information. However, it still would have been nice to have Amuck! In its original scope ratio.
The transfer is less than stellar, in that it seems to have originated from a VHS master. There are a few distracting dropouts that give this away. Amuck! Is a pretty cool, film, and can be purchased for less than 15 bucks. It's not likely that we'll ever see this film remastered in the near future, so this is the best we can do. Look at it this way, for the same price as a video, you can get this gem on DVD.
Sound is OK, despite some moments of an audible hiss in the background. It's not too distracting, most of the film, the sound is OK.
Extras are very cool, in that we get 2 interviews, with Bouchet and Neri, from 2/01. Each interview runs just under 3 minutes, and they are a real treat. There is also a talent file with some great promo stills, and a photo gallery, with more cool stills of Neri and Bouchet.
A less than stellar presentation, is made up for in the extras department, and a low price point, on a title, that we're not likely to see released again, anytime in the near future.
