Lawrence

It's no secret folks. Quite often the theatrical trailer can be a much more satisfying experience than the feature itself. It really wasn't too long ago that filmmakers had to sell the merits of their films on elements other than multi million star-power and CGI effects spawned from the newest Mac on the market. These showmen had to promise to present you with something bigger, badder, bolder and scarier than anything else you had ever seen before. Quite often these films did not live up to the outlandish claims presented. Well, for those of us who cherish the time honored tradition of the outrageous monster flicks of yesteryear (and for those of us who dig the brief trailers because 90 minutes is just too excruciatingly painful) All Day Entertainment presents All Monsters Attack a collection of 60 classic monster trailers. Also included are a few enticing bonuses to make it all the more appealing. Dim the lights and pop the corn...it's trailer time!

As a public service to loyal MAP readers (and to pad out the review just a bit) I have listed here all of the trailers present on the disc. Trailers include: King Kong, Son of Kong, Mighty Joe Young, Konga, The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, The Giant Behemoth, The Beast from Hollow Mountain, Dinosauris, The Lost World, Gorgo, Reptilicus, Valley of Gwangi, Godzilla King of the Monsters, Varan the Unbelievable, Rodan, Mothra The Monster God (pre-release), Mothra The Monster God (final), King Kong vs Godzilla, Godzilla vs The Thing, Gammera the Invincible, Gidrah The Three Headed Monster, Atragon, King Kong Escapes, Destroy All Monsters, Godzilla vs The Smog Monster, Yog Monster from Space, The Mysterians, Robot Monster, It Conquered the World, Kronos, Caltiki The Immortal Monster, The Blob, Beware! The Blob, It Came from Beneath the Sea, Attack of the Crab Monsters, Attack of the Giant Leeches, The Giant Gila Monster, The Killer Shrews, Night of the Lepus, Them!, Tarantula, Monster From Green Hell, Beginning of the End, The Deadly Mantis, The Spider, The Cyclops, Attack of the Puppet People, Giant from the Unknown, The Colossus of New York, Attack of the 50ft Woman, 30 Foot Bride of Candy Rock, The Amazing Colossal Man, War of the Colossal Beast, The Three Worlds of Gulliver, Village of the Giants, The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad (version 1), The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad (version2), Goliath and the Dragon, Atlantis the Lost Continent.

As I am sure you've guessed by now, audio and video quality ranges from trailer to trailer. With 60 trailers obviously culled from many different sources and of varying ages, quality does vary quite a bit. I'm not even going to begin to go into specifics on this, I'll be here all day. Just bear in mind that none of the trailers are really reference quality and many seem to have been transferred from video sources. I'm not complaining one bit mind you, this is literally a party on a disc and is a hell of a lot of fun to go through. Just don't go in expecting 60 remastered trailers that's not what you're going to get. What you are going to get is about 2 hours of invaluable cult entertainment on a magical silver disc.

Extras include some vintage behind the scene featurettes. These aren't new glossed over featurettes made for recent DVD releases either, really vintage stuff here folks, very cool. Films featured include The Land that Time Forgot (12 minutes) and The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad (3 minutes). Other extras include a vintage nuclear safety film entitled Operation Plumbbob (11 minutes) and an animated short entitled Megamorphosis (6 minutes).

Considering that this disc can be found online for about 20 bucks shipped, it's really a tremendous deal considering all of the entertainment value you're being given. As I've said before fans of giant monster films will most likely enjoy this disc a great deal. Also, those of you who enjoy your monster flicks in small doses should get a kick out of this disc as well. It's a win win situation here folks, check it out and dig in.
