This year marks the 5th time that Monsters At Play has covered the Philadelphia Film Festival. To put that into perspective, it means that Lawrence and I have been writing about the festival almost as long as this site has existed. It's not easy to review twenty some-odd films in a little over a week, but our dedication to supporting local film events drives us to improve our coverage year after year.
Of course, the Philadelphia Film Festival would no doubt resemble any other stuffy arthouse movie convention if not for the daring genre films of the Danger After Dark series. Programmed by associate festival director Travis Crawford, Danger After Dark continually challenges viewers with its eclectic mix of horror and cult films that explore the meaner, angrier side of life through sex, violence, sexual violence and violent sexuality.
This year promises to dish out bigger and better surprises then ever before. Exploding heads, socio-political satire and facial cumshots await those intrepid enough to show up to one of Danger After Dark's late-night screenings. So get on the trolley with the Monsters as we dive head first into the seedy underbelly of celluloid beast for the fifth consecutive year. Here's to the next five years!
