Well folks, it's April again, and around these parts that can only mean one thing. No, it's not the start of the new baseball season, it's film festival time! The Head Vampire and the Mad Scientist will once again be providing you with daily film reviews from the 12th Annual Philadelphia Film Festival. We had a great time covering last year's festival, and we've vowed to take it to the next level this year with more review articles, more insightful analysis and more scathing diatribes for the films that rob us of our will to live. Our goal is to see twenty films in ten days and provide the best coverage you'll find anywhere on the interweb. Can we do it? Only one way to find out!
The Philadelphia Film Festival has quickly become the largest of its kind on the east coast, with well over 300 films and a host of World and American premieres. In addition to its excellent selection of international films, eye-opening documentaries and works from independent filmmakers, this year's Danger After Dark program is absolutely stacked with the best in genre cinema. We're going to be treated to a screening of Beyond Re-Animator which will be attended by both Brian Yuzna and Jeffrey Combs. Monsters At Play favorite Takashi Miike returns to the festival with the crime drama Graveyard of Honor, as well as Ryuhei Kitamura's gory followup to Versus, Aragami. To top it all off we'll be seeing a host of films from the legendary Shaw Brothers, including the 36th Chamber of Shaolin. I think I just wet my pants.
Our film schedule below lists the films we will definitely be seeing, but we may add even more. So stay tuned, it's going to be a fun ride.
