We're a little behind on this one as Issue #3 of Film Fanaddict is already set to launch soon, so I offer my deepest apologies in getting this out there. Issue #2 provides some marked improvements over the first. The biggest plus being the new cover style that no longer spreads ink all over your fingers, clothes and sofa. It's a full color cover with a nice finish. This ink ain't goin' nowhere. Thank goodness.
The folks over at Film Fanaddict seem to really be getting a hang of how to better handle their content as well including interviews that are both informative and entertaining (interviews make up the bulk of this issue). Offering some author insight mixed in with the hard-nosed reporting is something that I really like, especially when you are dealing with genre material. Interviews include Asian up and coming actress Karena Lam, Bruce Campbell, Don Edmonds (Ilsa anyone?), Ralph Bakshi, John Waters and John McNaughton. Whew. It's quite an exhaustive list and while each of these interviews has their ups and downs, they are still all valuable (and formally esoteric) reads that should (and could) be enjoyed by a much larger audience. Fans of The Monsters should be familiar with each and every one of those names.
Additional features include an essay on Park Chan-Wook's Vengeance Trilogy and a fascinating report from the Pittsburgh World Premiere of Land of the Dead. Sprinkled throughout the pages of the magazine you'll also find assorted DVD reviews (some of which relate to the articles and interviews) including (but not limited too) The Bird With The Crystal Plumage from Blue Underground, Cry Baby and School of the Holy Beast from Cult Epics. Film Fanaddict even gives us their choices for the Top 10 DVD Releases of 2005. A little late I know, but still a valuable read for genre fans nonetheless.
Not your typical genre magazine, Film Fanaddict gets props for delving into the niche of a niche, something that The Monsters take great pride in and something that so few genre publications (print or web) seem to get right.
Next issue is available stand alone or with your choice of DVD for $20 postage paid. Check them out.
